Safety

The safety of the public, our workers, and our subcontractors is a core value of West Valley Environmental Services Company LLC (WVES).  Our corporate vision is to create a safe working environment that places the highest value on the welfare of the public, our workers, and our subcontractors; to instill a sense of individual ownership for safety, and; to embrace excellence in all aspects of our performance.  We are committed to safely doing all work to the highest standards.

WVES' goal is to create added value for the Department of Energy and all West Valley Demonstration Project stakeholders through best-in-class performance in environmental stewardship, safety, health, and quality.

We pledge to place the safety and well-being of the public, our workers, and our subcontractors first and to embody honesty and integrity in pursuit of our vision.

Key to accomplishing our vision and goal is implementation of the DOE validated WVES Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS).  Through the ISMS, WVES employees and subcontractors are required and empowered to perform work safely by:

  • Clearly and thoroughly defining and scoping their work,
  • Analyzing all hazards associated with this work,
  • Developing appropriate controls for these hazards,
  • Performing work within these controls, and
  • Providing feedback on the adequacy and effectiveness of the controls.

In addition to the validated ISMS, the West Valley Demonstration Project has been recognized by DOE every year since 1999 as a STAR site in the DOE Voluntary Projection Program (VPP).  VPP STAR sites are characterized as having achieved a high level of commitment to conducting work safely.  The WVDP has also been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Charter Member in the EPA's National Performance Track program.  Only those companies who consistently meet their legal requirements and have implemented high-quality environmental management systems are recognized.
